A Message from the
Chair
I am honored to serve as Chairman of the Latinos
in Information Sciences and Technology Association
Board of Directors. Now in our eighth year, our goal is to bring
technology to the Latino community and develop the next generation
of technology professionals and entrepreneurs. We also seek to
close the digital divide. I will work diligently in addressing
this divide in the halls of Congress as well as in every major
state capital. |
Hispanics today account for close to
$1 trillion dollars in economic activity, and are the largest and
fastest growing minority group in the United States. However, Hispanics
lag well behind other social economic groups in educational attainment,
with the highest high school dropout rate in the nation. Latinos
also have limited access to good health providers and opportunities
for advancement. As a former educator, I am keenly aware of the great
importance education plays in the lives of our youth. LISTA can be
the bridge to these gaps, by harnessing technology to address these
issues in an effective and powerful manner.
Technology
is an important component of our economy, and yet Hispanics only
play minor roles in it. I look to the day that through LISTA’s
efforts, Hispanics will be both in leadership positions and creators
of new and exciting technologies.
I
will assure you that LISTA will strive to meet these challenges
that lie ahead with vigor and steely determination, nothing else
will suffice.
On
behalf of the LISTA Board of Directors and our President Jose
A. Marquez-Leon, I want to thank you for being a part of this
important endeavor. Together we all can have a tremendously powerful
impact in the future of the Latino community.
Thank you for your continued support of LISTA!
As always
Sincerely,
Jose Luis Rodriguez
LISTA National Chairman
